Stowmarket has a rich history as a market town, dating back to July 1347, when Edward III granted the town its market charter. The market continues to serve local people every Thursday and Saturday in the Market Place.

This popular traditional market is complemented by occasional specialist markets, the summer Food & Drink Festival, and the festive Christmas Market.
